  15.             WOON '96 - FIRST ANNOUNCEMENT AND CALL FOR PAPERS

  18. "The White OO Nights" - a 2-day international conference focusing on
  19. object-oriented technology, WOON '96, is to be held at St. Petersburg,
  20. Russia, on June 20 and 21, 1996. Object technology experts from West
  21. and East gather together to share their ideas and experiences with each
  22. other at a very special time of a year - the White Nights - no darkness
  23. at all - nearly 24 hours of daylight. During the following weekend
  24. there will be an optional sightseeing programme including visiting 
  25. the Hermitage and Peterhof (If you stay over the weekend, the
  26. airline fares are rather low).

  82. English, to the program chair (woon@sigco.com) by no later than
  83. March 31st, 1996.  Papers should be formatted in Postscript, RTF
  84. format or ASCII. They should not exceed 10 pages and should be prefaced
  85. with ASCII text containing the paper's title, authors' names, contact
  86. name, email address, postal address, phone number, and a 100-word 
  87. abstract.

  96. Russia has been (and still is) a major force in most topics - even in
  97. computer science.  A surprising number of software development efforts
  98. within the former Soviet Union are using object-oriented programming
  99. and object-oriented design to build production software systems. Major
  100. universities teach object oriented methods and there is some research in 
  101. this
  102. area. Besides this there is much cooperation between Western and Russian
  103. companies and research institutes.

  105. It seems to be the right time for the first international conference in
  106. Russia about object oriented technology. This conference should:
  107.  
  108. - help East and West to learn from one another
  109. - help to build new connections
  110. - give the opportunity to present and to learn about
  111.   o the actual state of research in OO technology
  112.   o OO based developments
  113.   o practical experiences with OO
  114.  
  115.  
  116. The conference will be held at the St. Petersburg university. 
  117. Accommodations
  118. will be provided on-site.  Additional accomodations will be available in
  119. St. Petersburg.  Airport limousine service between St. Petersburg Airport
  120. and the conference site will be provided.
